Marine Parks Commercial Activity Permissions - Queensland

Description

This permit is required to carry out commercial and developmental activities in Queensland marine parks (including whale watching).

It is not required for fishing, boating, limited collecting, etc.

In general, permits are required for commercial tourism, any development works, mariculture and commercial collecting, within Queensland marine parks (including whale watching).

A licence defines the need to obtain recognition / certification and registration to undertake a certain business activity.

Eligibility requirements

Applicants should contact the Department prior to submitting an application. A pre-lodgement meeting or discussion is recommended.

Duration

This permit remains in effect for up to 6 years depending on the type of permit and whether a permit for the operation has been issued previously.

Application process

You can apply for this permit by completing the online Application for commercial activity permit.

Please read the information about commercial activities on National Parks, Recreation Areas and Forests prior to completing the online application form.

Should an application for a commercial activity be approved and a permit is granted, the permit holder must obtain a Public Liability Insurance Policy for a minimum of $20,000,000. The permit holder must also indemnify the State against any actions arising out of the activity. Standard indemnity and insurance clauses will be included as conditions of the permit.

Transfer

This permit can be transferred. A completed application must be signed by both the current and proposed holder.

Additional information

In the Great Barrier Reef World Heritage Area the permit is normally issued jointly by the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park Authority and the Department.  In State Marine Parks the permit is issued by the Department.
