Mt Cotton Training Centre - Queensland

The Mt Cotton Training Centre is nationally recognised as one of Australia's Premier Driver Training facilities and is also recognised internationally as a specialised event location to conduct driving activities. It comprises of six purpose built driving facilities that provide a safe, secure and controlled environment to conduct these activities.

The facilities are specifically designed to simulate real life situations and help drivers understand potential hazards they may be exposed to in normal driving conditions.

These facilities provide support to private and corporate companies to deliver driving training courses and programs to the road users to improve their knowledge, skills and qualifications by delivering driver training programs.

Mount Cotton Training Centre provides the infrastructure (driving facilities and training rooms) to private/corporate companies and vehicle manufacturing organisations to enable them to safely deliver driver education, training programs and promotional drive days. These programs are delivered to federal, state and local governments, their agencies and corporations as well as private companies requiring training for the general public and organisations employees.

The driving facilities available are:

  • Large Vehicle Manoeuvring Area consisting of two hectares of a flat bitumen surface. The area is about 150metres x 120metres in size with a 1.7kilometre circuit constructed around its perimeter. A feature of this facility is the bubble sprinkler system that was built allowing a constant wet surface if required.
  • Road Circuit which consists of about 1.8 kilometres of bitumen road. This has been designed with cambers, corners, hairpin bends, floodway, mulit-lanes and sweeping curves to enable drivers to understand, experience and learn the driving techniques required to safely negotiate these hazards.
  • Skid Pan sometimes referred to as the Skid Prevention Area consists of a slow manoeuvring area for light vehicles and a figure-eight concrete circuit layout that allows drivers to understand the causes and experience the effects of skidding in wet conditions.
  • Off-Road 4WD track allows individuals the opportunity to develop defensive and proficient driving skills in a range of off-road conditions. This facility includes numerous obstacles including hill climbs, log-bridge, bog holes, water crossing, incline/decline obstacles, wash-outs.
  • Vehicle Manoeuvring Area is a level bitumen surface measuring 140 metres x 45 metres. The main training uses include heavy vehicle manoeuvring, evasive reaction training, control braking (in wet and dry conditions) and lane-changing manoeuvring.
  • Motorcycle Manoeuvring Area is a flat bitumen surface 71 metres x 35 metres specifically designed for motorcycles. This facility allows trainers to conduct braking techniques, position techniques, slow and fast weaving, handling even surfaces and techniques to handle obstacles.
