Permit to operate a saleyard/trucking yard (Carpentaria) - Queensland

Description

You need this licence if you intend to operate a saleyard or trucking yard. Saleyard permits regulate the use of saleyards owned by local councils.

Council may impose conditions on permits for the use of saleyards. These may include:

  • yard cleaning
  • run off control and/or collection
  • manure and liquid effluent management
  • dust control measures
  • noise control measures
  • control over washing of trucking and other vehicles.

The Australian Animal Welfare Standards

The Livestock at Saleyards and Depots, and Land Transport of Livestock (the Standards) in the resource section below apply to all Australian livestock saleyard enterprises and depots.

The Standards apply to all those responsible for the care and management of livestock that are handled through saleyards and depots, including saleyard managers / superintendents, saleyard staff, stock persons, livestock agents, transport operators and drivers.

Unacceptable animal welfare practices can be prosecuted under cruelty and aggravated cruelty offence clauses in the State and Territory animal welfare legislation.
