Description

To provide details of the types, eligibility requirements and application fees regarding licences issued by the Queensland Building and Construction Commission (QBCC).

QBCC through the Plumbing and Drainage Act 2002, regulates the licensing of plumbers and drainers. In addition the Act provides standard laws in relation to the approval process and technical requirements for plumbing and drainage works and on site sewerage facilities to ensure that acceptable standards of public health and amenity are maintained.

The Plumbing and Drainage Act 2002 prescribes the criteria and conditions for the licensing of plumbers and drainers and sets out the administrative and technical standards for the provision of plumbing and drainage as well as on site sewerage facilities.

The Standard Plumbing and Drainage Regulation 2003 , deals with plumbing and drainage work, while the Plumbing and Drainage Regulation 2003 deals with the licensing of plumbers and drainers.

Compliance Mechanisms and Penalties:

Local governments and the QBCC have responsibilities for monitoring and enforcing compliance with the Act.

Breaches of licensing conditions are dealt with by QBCC. Disciplinary actions that the QBCC may be taken against a licensee include issuing reprimands or cautions, imposing conditions on the licence, and suspending or cancelling the licence.

Fines are imposed for other offences against the Act which may be prosecuted in the Magistrates Court.

Review or Appeal Mechanisms:

An appeal against a decision by the QBCC relating to a licence may be heard by the Queensland Civil and Administrative Tribunal.
