Poison wholesaler licence - Queensland


You require this licence to sell products which contain schedule 2, 3 or 7 medicines or poisons by wholesale.

  • Schedule 2 - pharmacy medicine, medicines that are available on the shelf at pharmacies.
  • Schedule 3 - pharmacist only medicine, medicines that are available from a pharmacist without a prescription. These medicines are usually behind the pharmacy counter.
  • Schedule 7 - dangerous poison, chemicals with a high risk of causing harm in low doses.

A licence defines the need to obtain recognition / certification and registration to undertake a certain business activity.

Eligibility requirements

To be eligible for this licence you must:

  • be a suitable person to hold the licence
  • ensure the premises to be used for wholesaling the controlled drug is suitable for the purposes.


This licence remains in effect for 12 months from the day it is granted. A renewal notice will be issued to you annually.

Application process


You can obtain this licence by completing the 'Medicines and poisons: manufacture and wholesale licence form' and submitting it with the appropriate fee and supporting documentation.

Before approval is granted an inspection of your business premises may be conducted to ensure that it complies with the requirements set out in the Act.


This licence cannot be transferred.
