Protected plant growing licence - Queensland

Description

You will need this licence if you intend to harvest restricted plants or plant parts for propagation or cultivation purposes. Specifically, a growing licence allows you to harvest:

  • plant parts for the purpose of growing plants
  • whole plants only where they are to be used as stock plants
  • whole plants where there is a need to introduce the plant into cultivation for commercial purposes
  • whole plants to replenish the genetic variation of a plant already in cultivation.

Restricted plants include protected plants that are critically endangered, endangered, vulnerable or near threatened plants, as well as plants listed as special least concern.

Eligibility requirements

To be eligible for this licence, you must:

  • be the landholder of the land or have written approval of the landholder where plants are to be taken
  • have the necessary knowledge, facilities and resources to propagate the plants and use the progeny of the plants
  • ensure there is a need to introduce the plant into cultivation for commercial purposes, or to replenish or supplement the genetic variation of the plant already in cultivation
  • ensure the growing is ecologically sustainable and will not adversely affect the survival in the wild of the target species
  • ensure the taking complies with the guidelines
  • be a suitable person who has not been convicted of a wildlife related offence in the past three years.
