QFISH Database (Queensland Fisheries Information System) - Queensland

Why the Support is Provided?

To provide a comprehensive fisheries information system to meet the needs of fisheries managers, researchers and industry and provide a decision support system to promote the sustainability and economic viability of the Queensland fishing industry.

What Support is Provided?

The Queensland Fisheries Information System (QFISH) provides temporal and spatial information on fish species catch and fishing effort. Data is generally available in aggregate form to protect the confidentiality of an individual's data.

The database includes data on catch and effort in major fisheries on a daily and operation-by-operation basis, including catch rates, species caught, location and boat activity, seasonality, landings, processors, boat and fishing gear, aerial surveys, biological data (length frequency, tagging, individual fish species) and environmental data.

Database information can be used for scientific stock analysis, economic analysis, monitoring current, short term and long term trends in the locational and temporal distribution of fishing activity and for management and administration purposes.
