The Department of Environment and Heritage Protection, on behalf of the Queensland Heritage Council, makes provision for the conservation of Queensland's historical cultural heritage by providing for the maintenance of a register of places of cultural significance, as defined under Section 31 of the Queensland Heritage Act 1992.
The Department of Environment and Heritage Protection on behalf of the Queensland Heritage Council maintains the Queensland Heritage Register, which is a record of Queensland Heritage Places of cultural heritage significance in Queensland. The Queensland Heritage Register is available online on the heritage conservation pages of the website. A certified copy of an entry of a registered place or a certificate stating whether or not a property is affected by the Act can be obtained on request.
Certificates of Immunity certifying that a place may not be entered in the Heritage Register as a registered place within five years of the date of a Certificate of Immunity can also be made by application to the Queensland Heritage Council.
