You need to be registered to practise as a podiatrist or a chiropodist in Australia. Podiatrists and chiropodists are involved in the diagnosis and treatment of problems associated with feet, ankles and related areas. The titles of podiatrist and chiropodists are protected and you must be registered to use them. You can only use the relevant protected title if you have the relevant qualifications and expertise.
Podiatric surgeons must register before they can practise. Podiatric surgeons use surgical procedures in the treatment of problems associated with the feet, ankles and related areas.
The types of activities considered a part of podiatry may be updated or changed from time to time.
There are five different types of registration offered to practitioners:
- general
- specialist
- limited
- non-practising
- student.
There is one endorsement for scheduled medicines available for podiatrists with additional qualifications and expertise.
