Shotfirer's licence - Queensland

Description

A shotfirer licence is required for you to use, possess, purchase, store and transport blasting explosives.

This includes transporting up to 250kg of blasting explosives (net explosives quantity) without a separate licence to transport explosives in a suitable vehicle.

Licences limit you to the type and nature of shotfiring activities that you can perform, such as outside built-up areas, quarrying, safety fuse only, etc.

Eligibility requirements


You must:

  • be an adult
  • be physically able to conduct blasting activities
  • have the required knowledge and training to conduct the work properly
  • have passed security clearances for criminal history and politically-motivated violence
  • undertake a medical assessment.

This licence may be applied for by an individual only.

Duration

This licence remains in effect for 1 year or 5 years after date of issue.

Application process

You can obtain this licence by submitting a completed application to the nearest Explosives regional office.

The required items section of the application form outlines all prerequisite licensing requirements.

The following may also be required before your application is approved:

  • the Chief Inspector of Explosives may require further assessment of the applicant under S15 (8)(c) of the Explosives Act 1999
  • the applicant's work status may require the provision of further information not outlined on the application form
  • the shotfiring activity cannot commence until the licence is issued.

Transfer process

This licence cannot be transferred.

Additional information

There is a mutual recognition licence available for a shotfirer licence application. This is only valid for a 1 year licence.
