Why the Support is Provided?

This service is provided to serve the judiciary and the legal profession in the administration of justice in Queensland.

What Support is Provided?

The Supreme Court Library provides a number of services including:

Queensland Legal Indexes

  • a register which consists of indexes of the Queensland Judgments Services, Queensland Current Case Citator and Queensland Legislation Service. This service is available by subscription in loose leaf and web formats. The product can be used in all formats at the library.

Searches of Australian and overseas databases

These databases consist of:

  • INTERNET (numerous legal sites are catalogued)
  • Online legal databases/CD-ROM searches are also available ( the library holds an extensive collection of legal CDs)
  • numerous print services.

Other services offered include a comprehensive selection of Australian Acts and Regulations, legal texts and an email, fax and research service.

Eligibility requirements

Access to the Library:

The following persons are entitled to use the Library:

  • members of the judiciary;
  • barristers and solicitors;
  • the Registrar and other senior officers of the High Court of Australia, the Supreme Court and District Courts;
  • the Chief Executive Officer and Executive Officer of those Courts;
  • associates and clerks to members of the judiciary;
  • members of the State Industrial Commission, the Australian Industrial Commission, and their associates or clerks;
  • students at law and articled clerks;
  • law students in the final year of their studies enrolled at the University of Queensland or the Queensland University of Technology;
  • any other person authorised by the Committee or in writing by any two members of the Committee to use the Library.

The Librarian may admit a member of the public to use the Library:

  • on a particular occasion;
  • for a specified period of time.

A person admitted to use the Library by virtue of this Rule shall be required to enter his name, current residential address, and signature in a book kept for that purpose by the Librarian, and to do so on each day on which he is admitted to use the Library.


Fee for service applies to searches of the Australian and overseas databases.

Other services listed are by subscription or free access at the Library.
