This service is provided to:
- improve the availability of good quality and appropriate water resource information for co-ordinated planning and sustainable development
- improve the assessment of the State's water and related resources
- plan for the community's future water and water-related needs and to propose broad options to meet those needs.
The Department of Natural Resources and Mines provides a database of information on most of Queensland's major water basins/catchments including rivers, lakes, streams but excluding the tidal waterways. The database is a storage system for river height and stream flow data consisting of several hundred sites throughout the state.
The data is available in many different output types, depending on the client's requirements, including daily flows and peak heights. Output is available in disk form, hard copy (text or plots) and raw data can be downloaded directly from the department's website through the Water Monitoring Data Portal under a user license for digital data (Streamflow data).
