Description

The Mines Inspectorate provides this advice to:

  • minimise injury and protect the health of employees and the public;
  • improve technical, health and safety advice to Government, industry and the community; and
  • enhance management of emergency situations.

The department inspects and audits mines and quarries to assess their health and safety management systems, to measure their performance and to help ensure continuous improvement in the system.

It provides technical advice in relation to health and safety standards as required by legislation. In addition, the department consults with industry operation and safety management and union leaders with regard to improving industry standards and legislation.

The department also provides to industry an Accident Database which records and reports lost time injury and disease in all mines and quarries in Queensland.
