Tow truck assistant certificate - Queensland

Description

You require this certificate to travel in a tow truck while the tow truck is attending a scene of an accident/incident and to tow a police seized vehicle under the Police Powers and Responsibilities Act 2000. You are required to provide assistance to the tow truck driver when preparing a motor vehicle for towing, loading the vehicle and assist in cleaning up the scene of an accident/incident efficiently and safely within regulated areas.

Application process

You can obtain this certificate by completing a Tow truck driver/assistant's certificate application (F4481) and submitting it to a Department of Transport and Main Roads Customer Service Centre. An application fee must be paid when the application is lodged. 

For Evidence of identity you must produce the following documents with your application:

  • a current Australian driver licence and identity card (if applicable), or proof of identity documentation (please refer to the Evidence of identity information sheet (form F4362) or www.tmr.qld.gov.au for requirements).

Your criminal and traffic history will be checked.

Transfer process

This licence cannot be transferred.

Additional information

A tow truck assistant can only operate under the authority when employed by the holder of a tow truck licence.
