Training Contract (Apprenticeships and Trainees) - Queensland


You need a training contract to employ and train a person in an apprenticeship or traineeship.

All apprentices and trainees employed in Queensland are registered with the Department of Employment, Small Business and Training.

Apprentices and trainees are under probation for an initial period of their employment and training, during which time either party may terminate the apprenticeship or traineeship training contract for any reason within the applicable notice period.

As an employer you must lodge a training contract within 28 days after the day the apprenticeship or traineeship.

A licence defines the need to obtain recognition / certification and registration to undertake a certain business activity.


No fees are payable for this training contract. There are tuition fees which are the responsibility of an apprentice/trainee, these are payable direct to the training provider. The fees vary depending on a range of factors.

Additional information

During the period of a full time/part time apprenticeship or traineeship, as an employer you must release the apprentice or trainee to attend college, or be removed from routine work for training delivery and assessment, and pay them for this time.
