Water Carrier Permit and Water Tanker Approval (South Burnett) - Queensland

Description

You need a food business licence to carry on a business where you:

  • use a water tanker to distribute water for domestic purposes (e.g. human consumption, food preparation, washing or other domestic activities)
  • obtain water from a source within the council area
  • sell water to a place within the council area
  • take water from the council's supply for commercial purposes.

You must gain council approval for all tankers you use to distribute water for human consumption.

Council may grant this permit if satisfied that:

  • the water you are distributing is of an appropriate quality for domestic purposes
  • your business complies with other criteria specified by legislation including the Food Act 2006 and the Australian Food Safety Standards.

Additional information

Council regulates private supply of water for human consumption:

  • ensures that water supplied by water tankers for human consumption or use is of suitable quality.
  • protects from contamination both water supplied and the water supply from which this water is taken.

Council may grant a food business licence based on the following conditions:

You:

  • comply with all conditions on the food business licence including but not limited to the Food Act 2006 and the Australia New Zealand Foo Safety Standards
  • only distribute water in your business that is fit for human consumption and complies with standards set by the relevant legislation
  • only take water from sources specified in the licence
  • only supply water for domestic purposes that complies with the Food Act 2006 and the the National Health and Medical Research Council Drinking Water Guidelines
  • only use water tankers for water suitable for human consumption
  • maintain the interior of each water tank in a clean and hygienic condition, free from rust and foreign matter
  • take reasonable steps to prevent contamination of any source of supply, distribution tank and receptacle into which you transfer water.
