Description

To protect and manage the Wet Tropics of Queensland World Heritage Area to ensure that Australia's obligations under the World Heritage Convention in relation to this area are met.

The Act prohibits the destruction of forest products (including timber harvesting) and certain other activities in the Wet Tropics World Heritage Area, unless exempted or authorised by a permit. It establishes the Wet Tropics Management Authority and provides for the Authority to prepare management plans for the area.
