Entertainment venues (Redland) - Queensland

Description

You require this permit to establish or operate an entertainment venue. An entertainment venue means a place that is open to the public for entertainment. It does not include a shop or licensed premises.

Entertainment venues are required to hold a permit to:

  • ensure that entertainment venues comply with appropriate standards of health and safety and
  • protect the amenity of areas in which entertainment venues are situated and
  • regulate the use of, and activities conducted at public entertainment venues.

Council may approve an entertainment venue application based on the following conditions, but by no means be limited by them. The following are examples of the conditions of a permit:

  • impose requirements about the layout, design, construction and external appearance of the entertainment venue (including requirements to make changes to existing buildings and structures)
  • require specified action to maintain or improve the entertainment venue
  • require the operator to provide specified equipment, and to take specified measures, for the safety of the public
  • require the operator to provide specified facilities and amenities
  • regulate the hours of operation of the entertainment venue
  • regulate illumination of the entertainment venue and light spillage from the entertainment venue
  • regulate noise emissions from the entertainment venue
  • require the operator to provide specified equipment, or take specified measures, to reduce adverse effects of activities in the entertainment venue on the surrounding neighbourhood to acceptable levels.

Eligibility Requirements

Council will consider that:

  • the public entertainment venue must contain a sufficient number of sanitary conveniences for both sexes and
  • the situation of the public entertainment venue and the nature of the activities to be conducted must be such that refuse generated during the operation of the public entertainment venue can be adequately collected and disposed of and
  • the premises must comply with the relevant environmental, health and safety standards required by law and
  • use of the public entertainment venue must comply with the planning scheme.

  • Application for, or renewal of, a permit for an entertainment venue - medium
  • Application for, or renewal of, a permit for an entertainment venue - large
