This licence is required for a tour operator to take clients to fossick for gemstones, ornamental stones, mineral specimens, and alluvial gold for recreational and tourist purposes.

You can obtain a fossicking licence online or from the nearest regional or district office or a fossicking licence agent.

Transfer process

This licence cannot be transferred.

Additional information

Land owner's permission must be obtained by licence holder prior to entry except for designated fossicking land, fossicking areas or areas where landowners have given "general permission" for entry to the Mining Registrar.

On mining tenements tenure holder's permission is required.

Licence holders must comply with the Fossicking Act 1994 and Regulations regarding activities.
