You require this licence to operate a Special Purpose Limousine (SPL).

A licence defines the need to obtain recognition / certification and registration to undertake a certain business activity.

Eligibility Requirements

Currently, you must hold an Operator Accreditation for Limousine Services.

If you intend to drive the limousine you must hold Driver Authorisation.


This licence remains in effect for a period of 12 months

Additional Information

Conditions apply to the operation of a Special Purpose Limousine Service Licence. These include:

  • only providing a service to a wedding event, student event or a tourist service;
  • not operating a service unless an earlier booking has been made;
  • using a motor vehicle of a type approved by the Department of Transport and Main Roads, or a vehicle which is at least 30 years old; and
  • using a motor vehicle that has not been modified other than for an approved modification purpose
  • is not a street rod vehicle
  • is not a left hand drive vehicle and
  • displaying a distinctive registration plate.

There is no restriction on the number of Special Purpose Limousine Service Licences that can be held. Any legal entity, for example a partnership, company or trust that has Operator Accreditation can purchase a SPL service licence.
