Visiting Overseas Body Art Tattooist Permit - Queensland


If you live outside of Australia and wish to visit Queensland to perform body art tattooing procedures for a fee or reward, you must apply for a visitor permit.

A visitor permit may be issued for a maximum of 31 days with a maximum of 2 permits per person per year.

If you live in Australia and are not licensed but want to visit Queensland to perform body art tattooing procedures, you must apply for a full tattooist licence.

If you live in Australia and have a tattoo licence in another state/territory you may be entitled to mutual recognition of a comparable licence in Queensland.

Eligibility requirements

Must Have

To apply:

  • be 18 years or older and not be an Australian citizen or resident
  • not be a controlled person of a declared criminal organisation as defined in the Crimes (Criminal Organisations Control) Act 2012
  • complete Tattoo Parlours Form 5 - Application for visiting overseas body art tattooist permit
  • provide a copy of your passport and visa
  • provide evidence of the premises where you will do the body art procedures
  • pay the appropriate licence fee
  • lodge the application


An application for a permit must be made at least 28 days before the proposed commencement date for the permit.  Please note it may take some time to process your application.  We will process licence applications as quickly as possible but, as other government agencies are involved in the approval process, applications may take some time to progress.  As such, people are encouraged to lodge their applications as soon as possible.

Note:  Licence applications under the Tattoo Parlours Act 2013 can only be lodged by mail.
