Approval of a Facial Recognition System - South Australia

Description

You will need approval if you are a gaming licensee and you intend to operate a system that enables the facial image of a person who is entering a gaming area to be recognised, identified and recorded.

If you are authorised to operate 30 or more gaming machines, and if at least one machine can be operated using a banknote acceptor, you will need to have an approved facial recognition system installed in your venue gaming rooms.

Eligibility requirements

To be eligible for this approval you must:

  • operate a facial recognition system that accurately takes account of physical variances in facial features
  • prevent unauthorised access, use and disclosure of data collected by the system
  • display a notice at each entrance to a gaming area that facial images will be recorded
  • dispose of the facial image of a person or any data recorded by the system after 72 hours
  • operate a facial recognition system in compliance with the legislation and the requirements of the gambling administration guidelines.
