Certificate of Occupancy - Kangaroo Island Council - South Australia

Description

A certificate of occupancy is required to occupy a building on which building work has been carried out. The certificate certifies that the building is suitable for occupation and complies with the Regulations. This certificate is not required in respect of a Class 1a or 10 building under the Building Code. An application must be accompanied by a written statement from the builder responsible for the building work that the building has been carried out in accordance with the relevant approval.

Exemptions

You will not require a certificate of occupancy for a Class 10 non-habitable building or structure under the Building Code, such as:

  • private garage
  • carport
  • shed
  • fence
  • retaining or free standing wall

  • lodge a completed form with the relevant authority
