Description

You will need to apply for a Certificate of Occupancy once building works have been carried out to prove that the building is suitable for occupancy.

A Certificate of Occupancy form certifies that a building is suitable for occupation and complies with regulations after building work has been carried out.

Exemptions

You will not require a certificate of occupancy for a Class 10 non-habitable building or structure under the Building Code, such as:

  • private garage
  • carport
  • shed
  • fence
  • retaining or free standing wall

  • ensure that the building is suitable for occupation from a safety perspective
  • lodge a completed form with the relevant authority
