A certificate of occupancy is required to occupy a building on which building work has been carried out. The certificate certifies that the building is suitable for occupation. This certificate is not required in respect of a Class 1a or 10 building under the Building Code. An application must be accompanied by a statement of Compliance from the builder responsible for the building work stating that the building work has been carried out in accordance with the relevant approval. Form 2 of the Essential Safety Provisions must be completed and signed by the owner or builder responsible for the installation of the Essential Safety Provisions.
