High Risk Manufactured Water System Registration - Town of Walkerville - South Australia


Building Owners of premises on which High Risk Manufactured Water System (HRMWS) are installed and operating are required to register each HRMWS with their Local Council.

High Risk Manufactured Water Systems are:

  • Cooling Water Systems: a heat exchange system that consists of a heat generating plant, a heat rejection plant, interconnecting water recirculating pipe work and associated pumps, valves and controls, and includes a cooling tower or evaporative condenser.
  • Warm Water Systems: a reticulated water system that distributes or recirculates warm water through the majority of its branches at a nominal temperature of 45??C by means of a temperature controlling device.

You will be required to conduct monthly inspections of regulated systems and ensure that periodic preventative maintenance is performed as prescribed under the Legionella Regulations.

Application process


You must be able to demonstrate the following:

  • A proposed alternative decontamination procedure that will effectively kill Legionella in the system
  • That a robust Legionella testing program will be implemented to ensure the efficacy if a proposed alternative decontamination procedure
  • That the system in question is being operated and maintained in full compliance with the Legionella Regulations
  • That the system in question has been assessed for risks associated with poor flow and stagnation and that modifications have been made to address any identified risks.
