Permission to Develop Street Verges and Nature Strips - City of Salisbury - South Australia


The Local Government Act 1999 requires that all private development of the verge has Council approval.

Verge areas may be developed, provided the type or form of development does not:

  • prevent any pedestrian from walking along the verge area in preference to walking on the roadway, regardless of whether a footpath has been constructed or not; and
  • prevent any Service Authority or Council from installing new services or maintaining services.

Written approval is often required for verge development.
