Description

Trap and Release Possum Permit
A permit is required to place a possum trap in a roof space to capture and remove a possum. Trapped possums must be released within 24 hours of capture (released at sunset on the day of capture) and released on the same property within 50 metres of the capture site.

Trap and Destroy Possum Permit
A permit to trap and destroy possums may only be granted if the applicant has tried all other means of resolving the conflict situation.

The humane destruction of Brushtail Possums can be facilitated by registered veterinarians, the Animal Welfare League and animal research facilities that hold a current scientific permit and animal ethics approval.

Eligibility requirements

The applicant must be the Landowner/Manager of Property, or in residential situations, the person residing on the property.

It is a condition of permit that a 'Summary of animals trapped and released or trapped and destroyed under permit' is completed within 14 days of permit expiry. Landowners who have recently held a possum permit will not be issued with a new permit until they have completed the 'Summary of animals trapped and released or trapped and destroyed under permit' for their previously held permit/s.

This information can be supplied by either completing the tear off slip located at the bottom of the permit or by providing the information on the new application.
