Trade Promotion Lottery Licence - South Australia


There are two classes of trade promotion lotteries which require a licence under the Lottery and Gaming Regulations 2008 (???the Regulations???):

Major Trade Promotion Lottery Licence
A major trade promotion lottery has either of the following characteristics:

  • the total value (nationally) of all prizes in the lottery exceeds $5,000; or
  • the prizes include both instant prizes and drawn prizes (regardless of the value of the prizes).

Trade Promotion (Instant Prize) Lottery Licence
All trade promotion (instant prize) lotteries require a licence regardless of the total prize value.

Minor Trade Promotion Lotteries do not require a licence, however they must comply with minor trade promotion lottery rules set out in the minor trade promotion lottery conditions.

Eligibility requirements

A trade promotion lottery is a lottery conducted by a firm or company to promote their goods or services. Entry into the promotion must be free and the winners determined by chance.


Expires on final compliance by the licensee with the conditions of the licence. Maximum period of duration is 12 months.


Application fees vary according to the prize value - ranging from $191 to $7,706 and these are detailed on the application form.
Amendment fees of $62.50 apply. If the total value of all prizes has increased, an additional licence fee may be required.
