You will require this licence if you operate an animal research institution and intend to conduct animal research activities. This includes conducting any procedure, test, experiment, inquiry or study in the course of which an animal is subjected to an extensive list of procedures or treatments such as:
- surgical, medical, psychological, biological, chemical or physical treatment
- abnormal conditions of heat, cold, light, dark, confinement, noise, isolation or overcrowding
- abnormal dietary conditions
- electric shock or radiation treatment.
This licence is also required for research requiring any material or substance to be extracted or derived from the body of an animal. A licensed institution may carry out animal research at one or more places or premises. Please note that there are additional requirements if you intend to use Tasmanian wildlife (including fish) for animal research purposes.
