Demolition Work Code of Practice - Tasmania

Description

You will be required to comply with this code if you intend to carry out work involving the demolition of a structure. Demolition work involves the demolishing or dismantling of a structure or part of a structure that is load-bearing or otherwise related to the physical integrity of the structure. A structure is anything that is constructed, whether fixed or moveable, temporary or permanent, and includes buildings, sheds, towers, chimney stacks, silos or storage tanks.

This code of practice is a compliance code. Compliance codes are made to provide practical guidance to persons who have occupational health and safety duties or obligations. Compliance with this code of practice is not mandatory. Failure to comply with a compliance code does not give rise to civil or criminal liability. However, meeting the requirements of a compliance code means that you have fulfilled your occupational health and safety duties and obligations in relation to the matters covered by the code.

This code includes specific obligations to manage the risks associated with demolition work and to meet your occupational health and safety obligations. This code also applies to all types of demolition work and should be read in conjunction with other codes of practice relating to hazards and control measures relevant to the construction industry.

Please consult the Contact Officer for more information and to ascertain the level of compliance (if any) that may be required.
