Food Standards Code - Tasmania

Description

You are required to comply with this code if you undertake any of the following activities:

  • operate a food business
  • produce food for human consumption
  • sell or advertise packaged food.

A food business is a business, enterprise or activity that involves the handling of food intended for sale or the sale of food. These include, but are not limited to, businesses such as cafes, restaurants, bakeries and market food stalls.

Food standards have the force of law. It is also an offence to sell food that is damaged, deteriorated, perished, adulterated, or is unfit for human consumption.
