Special Permit - Club Permit - Tasmania

Description

You will require this permit if you intend to sell liquor on the premises of an incorporated sporting club that is not fully licensed. This special permit allows for the sale of liquor for a period up to 15 hours per week. It is issued primarily for the social enjoyment of club members.

The hours for the sale of liquor are set six monthly, beginning 1 October and 1 April each year to coincide with the football and cricket seasons. In addition to the 15 permitted trading hours per week, clubs may apply for extra hours for additional functions and significant or extraordinary events by applying for a special permit.

If you are planning to allow patrons to BYO (bring their own) alcohol, please consult your local Council for compliance issues.

A licence defines the need to obtain recognition / certification and registration to undertake a certain business activity.

Eligibility requirements

In order to be eligible for this permit the sporting club must:

  • be constituted solely or primarily for sporting purposes
  • be incorporated
  • have at least 50 members who have attained the age of 18 years
  • have a clubhouse which complies with Local Government and Fire Service regulations as well as the minimum requirements of the Commissioner for Licensing
  • apply to the Agency on the approved form
  • supply all required documentation
  • pay the required fees.

Please note a special permit for clubs can only be held by a person who is at least 18 years old. The permit is issued to the person who applies on behalf of an association, society, organisation, club or other bona fide body running the event or function.
