To class your land as urban farm land, you must apply to receive a declaration from your local Council. Urban farm land, is land that:
- Provides the owner with their principal livelihood;
- Has an increased value due to the proximity to residential, industrial or commercial land, or due to a substantial demand for rural residential land; and
- Is used for substantial agricultural, pastoral, forestry, horticultural, viticultural, apicultural, fruit growing, dairy farming, poultry farming or horse farming purposes.
Once the local Council has made this declaration, the Valuer-General is to make a revaluation of your land as urban farm land.
