Licence to Act as a Professional Boxing and Combat Sports Trainer - Victoria


You will require this licence if you intend to supervise the training or instruction of professional boxers or kickboxers, or if you intend to accompany a contestant into the ring or arena to advise or assist them.

You will not require this licence if you are currently licensed in another State or Territory in Australia.

The sports covered include:

  • boxing, meaning fist fighting
  • combat sports, meaning kickboxing or any sport or activity (other than boxing) in which each contestant in a contest or exhibition of that sport or activity is required to strike, kick, hit, grapple with, throw or punch the other contestant.

Eligibility requirements

To be eligible for this licence you must:

  • be at least 18 years of age
  • hold current first aid qualification (Level One is adequate)
  • complete a questionnaire that is provided by the Board
  • apply using the required form
  • pay any required fees.

If you are applying for registration as a kickboxing trainer, you must hold a Black Belt certificate in a relevant martial arts discipline or have substantiated proof of adequate experience in training kickboxers.

Application process


Your completed application must be supported by proof of your identity, two recent passport sized photographs of yourself and a copy of your first aid certificate. If you are applying as a kickboxing trainer, you must also provide a copy of your Black Belt certificate. Please consult the Contact Officer for more information and view the application form.
