Permit to Conduct an Event on a Public Road - Victoria

Description

You will require this permit if you intend to conduct an event, such as a race or competition (other than a car race), on a public road. A permit will be required if the event involves more than thirty competitors or requires a road closure.

Events may be held on a single day or over a series of days, and include but are not limited to, bike road races, marathons, walkathons, and fun-runs. Processions and marches may also require approval. Events that do not require a permit may still need approval from the local council.

Eligibility requirements

To be eligible for this permit you will need to submit an application on behalf of the event organisers, with details of the event, in particular:

  • The organisations involved in the event;
  • The day or days of the event;
  • The approximate number of competitors or people to be involved;
  • The starting and finishing times of the event;
  • The requested route to be followed; and
  • Details of the event management plan in regard to marshalling, safety, amenity and order.

Ongoing eligibility requirements

You will be required to comply with conditions designed to ensure your event is conducted in a safe and orderly manner.

Any breach of the conditions may result in the event being halted and prosecutions laid. It may also jeopardise the issuing of future permits to the applicant / organisation named in the permit.

Duration

A permit is required for each event.

Expiry

On the day of the completion of the event.
