You will require this registration if you intend to operate a food business (meaning a business, enterprise or activity) from any premises in any commercial, charitable or community circumstance, including on a one-off basis, involving the handling of food intended for sale or the sale of food for human consumption.
Food includes any substance, thing, ingredient, additive, chewing gum or product intended for human consumption (whether it is live, raw, prepared or partly prepared but excluding a therapeutic good) and may also include live animals and plants.
The types of premises covered include:
- Land (whether or not vacant);
- The whole or any part of a building, tent, stall or other structure (whether of a permanent or temporary nature);
- A pontoon;
- A vehicle (other than a food transport vehicle while it is engaged in the transport of food).
From July 2011 it is anticipated that the statewide single registration system will enable market stalls, other temporary premises food vans, and food vending machines to operate anywhere in Victoria without the requirement for multiple registrations in each location.
Please consult your local Council for further information or advice specific to your business, enterprise or activity and the type of premises to be registered.
