Tourist Fossicking Authority - Victoria


This authority entitles the applicant to search for minerals. The fossicking can take place on any crown or private land, this can include land covered by a mining licence provided consent is obtained. This authority is subject to any other terms and conditions specified in the authority.

This authority extends to the sea bed and its subsoil within the territorial limits of Victorian water.

Eligibility requirements

Information required in application for tourist fossicking authority:

  • Name, address and contact details of applicant;
  • Description of tourist activity;
  • Number of people expected to search for minerals;
  • Term required (no longer than 10 years);
  • A map of land to which the application applies; and
  • If any of the land is covered by a mining, exploration, prospecting or retention licence, evidence of consent must be given.


The duration is for the period specified in the authority, not exceeding 10 years.
