Accreditation of Building Products - Victoria

Description

You will require this accreditation if you intend to design or build a product, construction method, design, component or system connected with building work.

All building products, construction methods, designs, components or systems connected with building work must comply with the Building Code of Australia and be accredited by the Building Regulations Advisory Committee.

A Certificate of Building Product Accreditation is proof that a product meets the performance requirements of the Regulations or the Agency. A building surveyor cannot refuse to approve building work on the grounds that any building product with the building work is unsatisfactory, if the building product is accredited.

To apply, complete the Application for Building Product Accreditation form.

Other forms and related documents can be found at the Victorian Building Authority website.

Please consult the responsible agency for more information and to ascertain the level of compliance (if any) that may be required.

Service type

Licence

A licence defines the need to obtain recognition / certification and registration to undertake a certain business activity.

Eligibility requirements

To obtain accreditation of a building product, you must provide:

  • an appraisal of the building product from an organisation or person that is recognised by the Committee as competent to make the appraisal
  • a test report from a Registered Testing Authority
  • the prescribed application fee.

It is strongly advised that you make an appointment with the Agency to evaluate your product's suitability for accreditation. Consultation at an early stage of the process will identify which accreditation system is most suitable for you and if accreditation is deemed to be appropriate.

Once the initial consultation has taken place and both parties agree that State Accreditation is suitable, a written application with supporting documentation should be made to the Agency. Please consult the responsible agency for more information regarding eligibility requirements.

Duration

Accreditation may be for any period, though a certificate is generally issued for 3 years.
