You will need to comply with this standard if you intend to undertake any work relating to the installation or construction of a lift.
A lift means any permanent plant which is in, or attached to, a building or structure and by means of which persons, goods or materials may be raised or lowered within or on a car cage or a platform. This includes a chair lift, escalator, moving walk or stairway lift and any supporting structure, machinery, equipment, gear, lift well, enclosures and entrance.
If you are the employer, main contractor, a self-employed person, or someone who has control of a workplace or access to the workplace then you must ensure that the safe working provisions and practices set out in this standard are followed.
This standard describes recommended safe working provisions and practices for those responsible for, and involved in, new lift installations.
