You will require this licence if you intend to operate a crematorium. A crematorium is any building, place, or premises designed for the cremation of human remains.
Crematorium licences can only be granted to the following organisations:
- the board or controlling authority of a cemetery
- an incorporated association, established for the purpose of cremation, which has been certified by the Chief Health Officer of Western Australia.
A licence will only be granted after the Western Australian Department of Health thoroughly inspects and approves the premises. Once a licence is granted, the holder must ensure that the crematorium is maintained correctly.
If you are approved for this licence and plan to build a crematorium, your licence will not come into force until a compliance certificate is issued by the Chief Health Officer.
Please consult the Contact Officer for more information.
