Licence to Construct a Retaining Wall on a Waterway - Western Australia

Description

You will require this licence if you intend to construct a retaining wall on a waterway in a declared management area. A waterway includes any rivers, inlets and estuaries, as well as any artificial canal, canal system, lake, lagoon or harbour connected to a waterway. There are five declared management areas in Western Australia:

  • Albany waterways
  • Avon River
  • Wilson Inlet
  • Peel-Harvey estuaries
  • Leschenault Inlet.

Some activities are prohibited in waterway management areas. You will need to consult the Department if you plan to conduct any of the following activities:

  • disturbing the waterbed, banks or foreshore
  • putting any matter into a body of water
  • launching a boat or other craft from a trailer
  • discharging oil into water
  • using aircraft on water.
