You must comply with this code if you intend to use or produce hazardous substances in your workplace.
This code provides a practical guide on how to comply with the National Model Regulations for the Control of Workplace Hazardous Substances [NOHSC:1005(1994)] so as to minimise the risk of disease and injury due to exposure to hazardous substances in the workplace. Most substances will have already been classified as hazardous or not hazardous by their manufacturer or importer.
If you are producing a substance yourself, you will have to determine whether or not it is hazardous by consulting the National Occupational Health and Safety Commission's List of Designated Hazardous Substances [NOHSC:10005(1994)] and Approved Criteria for Classifying Hazardous Substances [NOHSC:1008(1994)].
Please note that this code does not apply to radioactive or infectious substances. These are covered by separate codes.
Please consult the Contact Officer for more information and to ascertain the level of compliance that may be required.
