Exploration Permit - Western Australia

Description

You will need this permit if you intend to explore for petroleum in submerged lands. Exploring for petroleum includes conducting any geophysical survey intended to search for petroleum. Petroleum is any naturally occurring hydrocarbon or mixture of hydrocarbons, including oil and gas.

The agency will periodically invite applications for petroleum exploration. You may make a bid for up to 400 graticular blocks of territory at any one time.

Eligibility requirements

To be eligible for this permit you must:

  • ensure you and your employees who will likely be involved in your intended activities hold relevant technical qualifications
  • have sufficient technical advice and financial resources.

    If you are lodging an application on behalf of a consortium you will need to demonstrate that the consortium will be viable into the future.

    Duration

    Six years but can be renewed for five year periods.
