Second-hand Dealer's Licence - Western Australia

Description

You will require this licence if you intend to operate as a second hand dealer. A second hand dealer is a person who operates a business that buys, sells, or exchanges second-hand goods. Second-hand goods are items that have already been worn or used.

You may only apply for this licence as an individual, but you can hold that licence on behalf of a company or a partnership. Please note that if your company has more than one premise, a separate licence is required for each premise.

A licence defines the need to obtain recognition / certification and registration to undertake a certain business activity.

Eligibility requirements

You will need to provide the following documentation:

  • Evidence of age and identity (e.g. birth certificate, passport, VISA or motor drivers licence)
  • Overseas police check (if you are an overseas citizen or have lived overseas for a certain amount of time)
  • Four coloured passport sized photographs
  • Letter of intention and newspaper advertisement of this letter
  • Local council / shire approval
  • Trading name documentation (if you are holding this licence on behalf of a company or intend to use a trading name).

If the licence is to be held on behalf of a company, you will also need to provide a:

  • letter of authority from the company directors authorising your application
  • list of company directors
  • certificate of incorporation
  • business name registration certificate.

If the licence is to be held on behalf of a partnership, you will also need to provide a:

  • letter of authority from the partners authorising your application
  • list of partners
  • business name registration certificate.

Lodgement process

Apply

You must advertise your intention to apply for a licence in a newspaper that circulates throughout the State. Your application for this licence must be lodged within 28 days of advertising your notice of intention.

Application process

Renew

You must apply to renew your licence 28 days before your current licence expires.

Transfer

This licence is not transferable.
