Australian Standard AS 1636 Tractors Roll-Over Protective Structures - Western Australia


You will be required to comply with this standard if you use a powered mobile plant at your workplace, or if you import, supply, or manufacture mobile plant for workplace use, and the plant is fitted with a roll-over protective structure.

The standard specifies test procedures and minimum performance criteria for evaluating the effectiveness of roll-over protective structures. Your roll-over protective structures must comply with the performance criteria.

Powered mobile plant can, among other things, include tractors, mobile cranes and industrial lift trucks.

There are three parts to this standard depending on what sort of plant you use. The versions you must comply with are:

  • AS 1636.1-1996: Tractors - Roll-over protective structures - Criteria and tests - Conventional Tractors;
  • AS 1636.2-1996 : Tractors - Roll-over protective structures - Criteria and tests - Rear-mounted for Narrow-track Tractors; and
  • AS 1636.3-1996 : Tractors - Roll-over protective structures - Criteria and tests - Mid-mounted for Narrow-track Tractors.
