Fatigue Management for Commercial Vehicle Drivers - Western Australia

Description

You must comply with this code if you intend to drive a commercial vehicle. This code applies to commercial vehicle drivers whose work time either:

  • Exceeds 60 hours per week;
  • Exceeds more than 10 hours out of any 24 hour period more than once a week; or
  • Includes the period from midnight to 5:00AM.

Work time includes driving and all the activities that are associated with driving a commercial vehicle. The definition of a 'commercial vehicle' includes omnibuses, school buses, mobile plant, integrated mobile plant, and goods vehicles.

The purpose of this code is to provide practical guidance to industry on requirements in occupational safety and health regulations for driving commercial vehicles. The code promotes a systematic and considered approach to organising trip schedules and driver rosters to minimise the hazard of fatigue.

Please consult the Contact Officer for more information and to ascertain the level of compliance (if any) that may be required.
