Permit for Designated Activities in Underground Water Pollution Control Areas (UWPCA) - Western Australia

Description

You will require this permit if you are located in an Underground Water Pollution Control Area and intend to establish or operate premises where chemicals or other substances liable to pollute underground water will be used. This includes premises used for the storage, packaging, formulating, processing, manufacturing, sale, testing or use of chemicals or other substances liable to pollute underground water. This also includes elevated storage tanks.

Underground Water Pollution Control Areas are declared in order to protect underground sources of fresh drinking water. A map showing the location of Underground Water Pollution Control Areas is available from the Agency.

Eligibility Requirements

To be eligible for this permit you must:

  • clearly define the location of the activity, waste management measures proposed, and the extent of groundwater impact that could be expected and the risk of pollution occurring
  • demonstrate that systems are in place to manage the risk of the pollution of groundwater to a standard acceptable to the Waters and Rivers Commission
  • submit any required forms
  • pay any required fees.
