Prospecting Licence (Onshore Minerals) - Western Australia

Description

You may require this licence if you intend to conduct mining exploration or prospecting activities in Western Australia's onshore areas. There is no limit to the number of licences you may hold.

The maximum area for a prospecting licence is 200 hectares. A prospecting licence authorises you to excavate, extract or remove a total of up to 500 tonnes. You will need to apply for the Agency's approval if you intend to extract more than 500 tonnes.

You cannot apply for a prospecting licence in respect to land which is currently the subject of a mining tenement.

Please note that you require a separate Miners' Right to actually conduct the prospecting itself.

A licence defines the need to obtain recognition / certification and registration to undertake a certain business activity.

Eligibility Requirements

To be eligible for this licence you must:

  • provide details of land availability
  • provide details on the types of land you propose to obtain the Licence for (such as Crown, Reserve or Private)
  • notify the owner and / or occupier of the land affected
  • provide any other information required by the Agency
  • submit any required forms
  • pay any required fees.

Duration

The term of a prospecting licence is 4 years, and may be renewed for another 4 year period.
