Approval to Supply Syringes - Australian Capital Territory

Service summary

You will be required to apply for this approval if you intend to provide syringes to people. This approval is available to:

  • Doctors;
  • Nurses;
  • Pharmacists;
  • Midwifes; and
  • Health workers.

The approval system is intended to prevent the spread of disease related to the use of syringes outside of medical applications.

A licence defines the need to obtain recognition / certification and registration to undertake a certain business activity.

Eligibility requirements

You are required to submit an application providing:

  • Your personal details and the details of your occupation or business; and
  • If you are a health worker, the details of the most recent course of instruction you have completed in regards to the supply and use of syringes.

You will also be required to be considered a fit and proper person to be supplying syringes.
